ABOUT

Jeremy and Jess moved to Woodbury in Canterbury in the winter of 2023, where Tír na nÓg Irish Draughts was established.

​

Before moving south, Jeremy spent 18 years living and working remotely on stations around Gisborne. During this time, he developed his horsemanship alongside many local horsemen, where horses are still very much a way of life for Coasties.

​Jeremy also developed a strong interest in the true Gisborne station-bred horse. Over the years, he acquired a line of six Telesun grey mares, valuing their toughness, soundness, athleticism and versatility.

After arriving in the South Island, Jeremy contacted Tracy Crossan at Trevalda with the hope of purchasing one of Derrynasagurt Silver’s purebred colts. Tracy invited him to visit Trevalda and went one better by offering him Silver himself.

Silver was exactly the type of Irish Draught Jeremy had been looking for to complement his existing line of horses. He is a modern type of Irish Draught, tall, athletic and free-moving, with an effortless ability to cover the ground.​
 
Jeremy’s passion for the Irish Draught has also been shaped by the strong similarities between Irish and New Zealand horse culture. The Irish have always been true horse people, with breeding focused on temperament, soundness and versatility.​
 
These are qualities Jeremy values highly and believes will complement and strengthen his breeding programme, forming the foundation of what Tír na nÓg Irish Draughts is working to produce.
