In early 2021, Derrynasagurt Silver was identified in Ireland as a strong prospect for the New Zealand breeding market. Class 1 Irish Draught stallions rarely become available, and Silver’s modern type, athletic build, free movement and excellent temperament made him an especially suitable candidate. Following an inspection at Padraic Corcoran’s yard in County Cork by Aidan Flanagan of GoldSmith Country Irish Horses, the decision was made to purchase and import him to New Zealand.
Silver began his journey in March 2021, travelling from Ireland to Germany for 21 days of quarantine. He then flew to Melbourne for a further 15-day quarantine period before arriving in Auckland on 13 May and reaching his new home on 16 May. He adapted quickly to New Zealand conditions and soon demonstrated the qualities recognised in Ireland: a calm, willing nature, natural balance, uphill movement and an uncomplicated attitude both at home and under saddle.
